Checkmate Violence Campaign: Impact-Driven Documentary Production

The Forum for Development Dialogue and Justice (FODDAJ) is a Kenyan organization working to promote peace, justice, and safer communities

The Challenge

Gender-based violence remains a major challenge in Kajiado County. FODDAJ wanted to engage men, women, and youth in meaningful conversations that challenged harmful cultural norms and encouraged positive behavior change.

Jeota’s Solution

Jeota Media partnered with FODDAJ to design and deliver the Checkmate Violence campaign. Using documentary storytelling, social media content, event coverage, and impact-driven communication, we captured the voices of communities, amplified the campaign, and documented stories of change. The campaign combined draft tournaments, community discussions, and ambassador training to create safe spaces where people could openly discuss gender-based violence.

The Results

The campaign directly engaged over 6,000 participants, including 4,000 men and 2,000 women and youth, across 5 locations in Kajiado County. More than 6,000 community members were reached through events and media coverage. The project trained 15 GBV ambassadors, who went on to lead conversations in their communities, helping create a lasting movement against gender-based violence beyond the campaign itself.
